Ice Skating on a Lake

So my youngest and I decided to go ice skating since we just bought some ice skates and our rollerblades are on hold for the weather.  We could have gone to the local ice rink, but to be AUTHENTIC ALASKANS we decided to go to a local lake and skate.  When we arrived...this is what we saw...

Yes that is right:  To be a "REAL" Alaskan, you just ice skate on a city lake.  They have a truck that comes and clears the snowfall.  Then another truck comes(not pictured) that drops hot water onto a piece of tarp that acts as a little zamboni.  Hilarious I know, but it makes for some great skating.

Little Man patiently waiting for the plow truck to finish.  We decided after waiting about a half hour to try to find the monsterous snowman appropriately titled "SNOWZILLA" close by.  Unfortunately we did not find him or I would have pictures of it.  But finally we were off skating.

He was so great at it.  Fearlessly he attacked it like crazy.  Notice the snow-covered knees...fearless.  More pictures of the little man tearing it up on the lake of ice.  It would even crack as you skated.  Quite loudly I might add.  We are told that means it is good ice.
He had so much fun.  I was freezing!!!  I kept asking him if he was finished yet...NOPE!  LONGER LONGER!!! He wanted to master it to show off to his siblings.  This is his purpose...to KEEP UP!
 HOWEVER,
YOU KNOW IT IS COLD WHEN...

You have frozen eyelashes from your breath freezing instantly.
 AND
When you are female and your hair looks like a frozen beard.

YOU KNOW YOU HAD FUN WHEN...

Ice Skating on a lake is hard work especially in below 0 weather.

I love that he had to master it before you left, just to be able to show off! I also love the frozen hair! :-)
