Snowshoeing-Another new adventure

This year the kids got a pair of snow shoes for Christmas.  Sis decided that she wanted to try them out.  She went out with her Daddy on a great adventure.  They were gone for several hours.  Her favoirte part was standing under the large trees and tapping on thier trunks which would trigger an avalanche of snow to fall from their heavy branches.  It is like a cartoon.  Tap tap tap...WHUMP! She had such a blast blazing new trails and having fun with her Daddy.

I'm all ready to go!

Dad is ready too!

Here they go into the wild White yonder...

This looks like so much fun!

I think she is loving this time with DADDY!

Look how beautiful!

This is as the "WHUMP" effect is happening.

Upon returning to the house...wanting a nice cup of hot cocoa with cute marshmallows...the power was out!  This was our first trial of staying warm in sub-zero weather with no power and only our wood burning stove.  We discovered serveral things. 1) We did not have enough dry wood in the garage.  2)  We need a large propane tank (We had several but could not ship them with us on the boat.) 3) The temperature in this house dropped over 10 degrees in two hours....burrrr!  4) Hot Dogs are great to have on hand for a meal over the fire.  It is better if they are thawed.  5) When all else fails and the kids are cold and getting worried...undecorate your Christmas tree and get it out of the house...This will make the power "magically" return. The kids were certain this was the problem...the Christmas tree.  Since then we have not had the power go out...dang tree!  We were ever grateful...it was 50 degrees inside the house.

Preparedness is a necessity here in Alaska and we realized in that short two hours that we need to get some extra things in order to be prepared for the conditions here.  We are learning lessons daily.  Chalk this up to another lesson learned through a great adventure.

Sister did get her hot cocoa...we all did thanks to our favorite microwave!!!

Still Smiling!

Even having a power out adventure sounds appealing! Dang Christmas tree. I guess you could have burned it too?
