The latest adventure....ICE FISHING!

In Colorado OUR family has enjoyed going fishing with a wonderful man for years.  Our kids adore him...we adore him.  So perhaps we are having pangs of missing him which stimulated this adventure.

The husbands had found an ice fishing set up on Craigslist.  They wanted to buy it.  They decided to go halvsies on it, but then the unthinkable happened....it got sold right out from under them.  Bummer!  So they continued to search Craigs for more gear.  Together they got a set up.  Now it was time to try it out.  The wives decided that they had to try it out first before we would bring the kids....it's too cold...and if something went wrong...the kids would be miserable and maybe never want to go again.  So the men went on thier solo adventure.  Here is the pictures to show...Boy was it cold!  And they forgot to bring the propane for the heater....oops!  BUT, they stayed out there for several hours in 0 degree weather.

Two goose eggs!

 Now they were ready to attempt an outing with everyone!  Here goes nothing.  They left ahead of the women and kids to get everything set up so kids arrived to warmth and not frozen cold elements.  Here it is in a picture story...About two feet of snow must be shovelled away first.  We let the men do that for us.  Then we arrived just in time for the DRILLING.  The ice is about 18+ inches thick.

THIS LITTLE GUY WAS SUCH A TROOPER.  HE ENDED UP WITH ICE HEELS LITERALLY...3 INCHES HIGH OF ICE ON THE BOTTOM OF HIS BOOTS THAT WE HAD TO USE A HATCHET TO REMOVE ROUTINELY.

ALL THE KIDS GETTING WARM BY THE HEATER THAT THEY ARE COVERING SO YOU  THINK THEY ARE TOUGH...WHICH THEY ARE.

OUR FAVORITE PARTNERS IN CRIME...ADVENTURES.

AND US...

THE KIDS ENJOYED PLAYING IN THE SNOW, SHOOTING THE BB GUN AT EMPTY SODA CANS AND SEARCHING FOR BALD EAGLES IN NEARBY TREES WITH BINOCULARS.

THIS IS THE BOYS BRINGING EVERYTHING IN AT THE END OF THE DAY ON THIER TRANSPORTATION SLEDS.  THE KIDS WERE FREEZING AS WELL AS THE ADULTS.  WHAT AMAZING TROOPERS THOSE KIDS WERE...THE TEMP WAS LESS THAN 5 DEGREES ALL DAY.

                             THE CAR IS PACKED...HE IS GETTING BETTER AT IT!

AND THIS IS THE LAST VIEW AS WE LEFT THE BEAUTIFUL LAKE AS THE SUN WAS STARTING TO FALL BEHIND THE MOUNTAINS.

SO WE ARE STILL HUNTING THE ILLUSIVE FISH BENEATH THE ICE...HOPING FOOD WILL BE FOUND.  PRAY FOR US! : )
